Photographs documenting events of July 14, 1969 during a conflict between police and demonstrators over the fencing of newly-formed
People's Park, in Berkeley, Calif., taken by photographer when she was an aspiring photojournalist at age 22. Images depict
various activities of Berkeley Police Department officers, protesters, reporters and bystanders. Many scenes depict or show
evidence of the police use of tear gas. Various locations and points of interest depicted include Telegraph Avenue and the
streets bordering People's Park: Bowditch Street, Dwight Way and Haste Street; First Church of Christ, Scientist; Berkeley
Inn Hotel; Cody's Books; Layton's Shoes; Campus Smoke Shop; Regent Street; and various locations on the campus of the University
of California, Berkeley, including Sproul Plaza, Ludwig's Fountain, the ASUC center and Wheeler Hall.
