Title:

Portraits of Dr. David Burbank and his bride, Clara Kauffer

Abstract:

Daguerreotype of Burbank taken soon after his purported 1853 arrival in San Francisco. However, a note in the daguerreotype case well in a mid-19th century hand states "Dr. David Burbank upon arrival in California 1850." He wears what appear to be mining clothes and a straw hat, and his fingers are bandaged. Two ambrotypes, taken a few years later, are of Burbank and his wife, Clara Kauffer, in their wedding clothes.
