Abstract:

Recollections of his father, Hubert H. Bancroft; his early law practice in San Francisco; his interest in politics- particularly the graft prosecution in San Francisco, the gubernatorial campaign of 1910, the start of the Progressive Party, and his 1938 campaign as Republican candidate for U.S. senator; his experiences fruit and nut farming in Walnut Creek- with marketing cooperatives, farmer organizations (including the Associated Farmers) and attempts by unions to organize farm labor. Photographs, printed material, and copies of letters discussed in the text, inserted or appended.
