Note:

The letter is dated April 2 with no year, but the Sacramento floods that Denver describes are likely those of December 1852, dating this letter to 1853.
Pollie Denver's husband Frank Denver was the brother of James W. Denver , who served in the State Senate, became California Secretary of State, was elected to the 34th Congress, and whom the city of Denver, Colorado was named after. Frank Denver was a partner in the jewelry firm of Wachhorst and Denver, and served as Lieutenant Governor of Nevada from 1871 to 1875.
