Abstract:

Contains the research files for an unpublished biography titled, "Fifty years in the mountains of the West: the life of Norman Clyde." Materials include correspondence, notes, transcripts, memoirs, interviews on audiocassetes, photographs, etc. Includes Norman Clyde's handwritten manuscript of a proposed book that was rejected by Stanford University Press in circa 1932, and original photographs of Clyde. Also includes indexes to the folder arrangement and interview tapes.

Norman Clyde (April 8, 1885-December 23, 1972) was an American mountaineer, mountain guide, freelance writer, nature photographer, and self trained naturalist, best known for his climbing accomplishments in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
