Abstract:

Papers of William Augustus Kimball and his father, Nathan Kimball (1822-1898), pertaining to their military service and to the business interests of the son in Washington Territory.
The papers include 16 family letters by Nathan, Emily C., Nan L., and William A. [brother of Nathan] Kimball, 1863-1898; and letters by John R. Brooke, 1889; Josiah McClain, 1893, Al Tooker, ca. 1920, and George Turner, 1886.

After service in the Mexican War, Nathan Kimball became a general officer in the Union army; subsequently engaged in the life insurance business in Indianapolis, 1872-1873; and in 1879 was postmaster at Ogden, Utah. The son, a graduate of the Military Academy, retired with the rank of captain in 1894; he and his wife Stella A. Kimball owned real estate in Jefferson and Kitsap counties, and had mining interests in Colville County, Washington.
