Note:
Kenneth Yearns (d. 1987) was an American Foreign Service Officer, stationed in Tientsin, China, in the late 1930s. Wilfred
V. Pennell (d. 1980) was a longtime English journalist in China, editor of the North China Daily News in Tientsin in the 1930s,
up to the beginnings of World War II. He was also chief editor of the British Far Eastern Broadcasting Service, first under
the Foreign Office and later under the BBC. In 1949 he became editor of the morning China Mail in Hong Kong. His book, A Lifetime
with the Chinese, was published in Hong Kong in 1974. Samuel Sokobin was a longtime American Foreign Service Officer in the
Orient and an expert in Sino-American relations.
