Ida Poriss was born in Berezna, Russia. Her family entered the U.S. in 1902 and then moved to California in 1907. She eventually
graduated from Oakland Technical High School and married Joseph Rude. She was active in fundraising for local Jewish institutions,
especially as a vocalist and costumer for musical productions intended to raise funds in the Oakland Jewish community. Among
the institutions who benefited from her philanthropic work were Temple Sinai and Temple Beth Abraham (both in Oakland, Calif.)
as well as the Home for Jewish Parents and its Women's Guild. She was also a member of the East Bay Council of Jewish Women
and Temple Sinai's Sisterhood.
