Abstract:
Vatter discusses his childhood in the South, riding the rails in the 1930s, and how he became a radical and activist at the
University of Wisconsin, joining the Communist Party. He describes his graduate education at UC Berkeley in economics in the
1940s and teaching jobs at Oregon State University and Carleton College. He discusses harassment he received from the FBI,
how his politics evolved from communist to progressive, and economics.
