Include: Diary (1 v.) recording his voyage from New York around the Horn to San Francisco on the ship Salem as member of the
California Mutual Benefit Association, his journey up the Joaquin River to Stockton and thence to the mines, and his experiences
mining at American Camp, Murphy's Diggings and Mokelumne Hill, Mar. l2, l849-June l, l85l. Incomplete; pages between entries
for March l3 and Oct. lO missing. Constitution and by-laws of New York and California Excelsior Mining Company written in
at the end of the diary. Journals containing diary entries for March l2-21, l849, copied from the original diary, with a preface
summarizing preparations for the journey, a printed copy of by-laws for the California Mutual Benefit Association, and a sketch
of the ship Salem; a history of the Halsey family (p.78), records for a mining company in Volcano, l855-57, with notes on
weather, etc., (p.197-222) and a record of letters received and written, 1857-1858. With these: A Forty-Niner's Diary as written
by Isaac Sherwood Halsey, transcribed and edited by Frank S. Halsey, which also includes biographical information on Halsey
(photocopy of typescript, lO8 leaves, in l v.).
