includes his impressions of S. F., the birthday celebration, his work painting the observatory, his union activities and participation
in a strike.

Note:
Herbert Lumis was born in Norwich, CT, in about 1867 and came to San Francisco late in 1889. His father had apparently preceded
him to California. Lumis found work as a painter and at first found San Francisco fascinating, but evidently soured on it
and left the city before 1894. He died in Norwich on November 20, 1950.
