Sterling, Illinois,1849 Mar. 21. Handwritten letter (4 p.) to mother, Agnes Woodburn, in Newtown, Pennsylvania. George W. Woodburn is about to embark on an overland journey to California to search for gold. Gives reasons for his decison and plans including the use of oxen drawn wagons.
Woodworth Camp, California, 1849 Sept. 7. Handwritten letter to brother Colonel William H. Woodburn about having just arrived in California. Gives details of the trip and his hopes for success in finding gold.
