Includes prints, slides and negatives taken by Anthony throughout his career. Projects represented in significant quantity include Vacaville Prison (1960), Ernest Hemingway's funeral (1961), Richard M. Nixon and family (1962), Mendocino (1962, 1985), Brendan Behan (1965), protests (1965-1980), Admiral Chester Nimitz's funeral (1966), Jimmy Carter in Eugene, Oregon (1976), San Francisco Herring Fisherman (1975-1976), Mariposa, Calif. (1982), Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead (1987-1989, 2003), University of California, San Francisco hospital (1988), San Francisco chapter of the Guardian Angels (1989) and Sonny Barger and the Hells Angels (1967, 2001). Other subjects include Lou Lurie, Cuba, Joe Rosenthal, Shirley Temple Black, Erskine Caldwell, Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Allen Ginsberg, Uri Geller, Jerry Brown, Hebert Gold, Balclutha (ship) and Kenneth Rexroth.

Photographed and collected by Gene Anthony. Collection comprises only a small portion of the photographer's entire archive. Much of his work depicting 1960s hippie culture, the Summer of Love, and rock music was acquired by Wolfgang's Vault and is not part of this collection.
Some photographs bear stamps of Black Star, Anthony's affiliate cooperative agency.
