Abstract:

Include three letters, Mar.-Nov. 1849, from Enoch Gove, Boston merchant, to his brother, Amos, and C.B. Phelps, in California, members of the Boston and California Mining and Trading Co., reporting on excitement in Boston re gold finds and giving advice; letter, Nov. 3, 1855, written to Enoch Gove from friend in Honolulu on business matters; log of voyage from Boston to California on the Edward Everett, Jan.-Apr. 1849, with list of passengers, giving occupation, residence, birth place and age, and return to Boston on the Mary Anna, Dec.-[Feb.] 1850, [kept by Amos Gove?]; Amos Gove's sketchbook with California mining scenes et al; and letter from unidentified correspondent to editor of the Independent, Feb. 21, 1862, describing trip of steamer Fanny Ann of San Francisco up the Mokelumne River.
