Abstract:

Album, which belonged to British Captain Godfrey Drage, contains 134 black and white photographs of Burma with handwritten captions in English, accompanied by additional loose photos and clippings. Images include numerous shots of local peoples; mountains, rivers and other scenic views; temples, pagodas, dwellings, and other buildings; a Baw-Gyo festival; villages, bazaars; French colonial officials from neighboring Indochina; river boats; ferries, people and mules making river crossings; the construction of a road. Locations include Kengtung, Nam Pang River, and other towns in Shan State in Burma. Clippings relate mainly to colonial activity overseen by Drage such as railroad and road construction.
