Abstract:
Contains files created during Wheeler's time as Secretary for Resources for the State of California, including correspondence,
memoranda, reports, and clippings. Major topics include water rights issues, urban sprawl and development, biodiversity, wetlands
preservation, and other conservation matters. Besides Wheeler's position as Secretary, his involvement with the Nature Conservancy,
the Keystone Center, Resourceful California, and the Sierra Summit are all well represented. The collection also includes
materials related to environmental research projects, most notably the Sierra Nevada Catalog, the Heinz Center's report card
