Title:
Disturbios de frailes
Abstract:
Part of a collection comprised of 72 items relating to religious developments in the Indies, and internal history of monastic
orders in New Spain, Peru, and the Philippines, as affected by conflicts with ecclesiastical and civil authority. A typescript
table of contents available in each volume. Individual leaves have been numbered.
Concerns the disputed election of Fray Alejandro Casquero as the provincial of the Franciscan Province of San José in Yucatán;
the distribution of offices between Creoles and native Spaniards in religious orders; and verses by José Antonio de Alfaro
y Ochoa, protesting his arrest.
Deals primarily with jurisdictional questions. Nos. 2 and 12 are substantially identical with the defense in the criminal
case against Fray Jacinto Miranda (see M-M 26). Includes marcas de fuego on nos. 4-7, including on the margins of leaves.
