Abstract:
Brief daily record in several types of pocket diaries. Volume for 1902 missing. V. 1-2 records life in Illinois; v. 3 contains
record of trip to California via the Isthmus of Panama; v. 4-5, odd jobs in California and return to Illinois; v. 6-7, life
in Illinois and return to California, via the Isthmus; v. 8-9, chiefly in San Francisco (purchased an island in the Delta
region); v. 10-19, chiefly in Antioch; v. 20, records trip to Chicago after the fire, and return; v. 21-60 in California,
chiefly at Antioch or San Jose.
Faithful recording of the weather; little detail of personal life; chiefly record of his carpentry. A few accounts, business
cards and newspaper clippings included.
