Abstract:
Collection of four documents relating to the residencia of Revilla Gigedo the Younger as viceroy of New Spain. Consists of:
1) the defense of Revilla Gigedo, Mexico City, 1795, presented by his attorney, Pedro de Basave, and by Bernal y Malo, refuting
point by point the accusations formulated by certain officials of the Municipal Council. Corresponds substantially to the
printed "Testimonio del Escrito Presentado por el Defensor ... de Revilla Gigedo," reproduced in Estados Unidos Mexicanos,
Publicaciones del Archivo General de la Nación, Vol. XXII (Mexico City, 1933), pp. 98-209;
(Cont.) 2) the judgment passed by the Council of the Indies, which posthumously vindicated Revilla Gigedo; 3) accusations
against Revilla Gigedo, Mexico City, February 12, 1795, dealing primarily with alleged disrespect to a statue of Fernando
VI; 4) a statement of Miguel Costansó and Ignacio Iglesias Pablo, explaining and justifying Revilla Gigedo's conduct in regard
to the said statue.
