Folder 1 is a file on plans for the defense of the northern frontier, 1754-1755, including decrees of Viceroy Revilla Gigedo
the Elder and Governor Mateo Antonio de Mendoza, and related documents concerning defense projects. 186 p.
Folder 2 consists of proposals for frontier defense, 1755-1757, with reference particularly to the Valle de San Buenaventura.
Includes reports from Governor Mendoza, the Marqués de Aranda, and others. 82 p.
Folder 3 contains papers on a dispute between Governor Mendoza and Bernardo Antonio de Bustamante y Tagle, captain of the
mobile unit based at Huejuquilla for the protection of Chihuahua and central Nueva Vizcaya. Includes petitions, letters, decrees,
official opinions, annotations, certifications, and related materials, 1756-1761. 102 p.
Folder 4 has portions of a report prepared on behalf of the Captaincy General of Nueva Vizcaya in connection with a war council
assembled to discuss establishment of new frontier presidios and other defense measures [1757?] 44 p.
Folder 5 is a certified copy of a file, 1759-1760, on charges brought against Captain Rubín de Celís for inefficiency, peculation,
maltreatment of the Indians, and failure to execute orders. Contains depositions of witnesses, orders of Governor Mendoza,
commissions, instructions, and related documents. 270 p.
Folder 6 is a report, apparently addressed to the Viceroy by Governor Mendoza at the close of 1759 or the beginning of 1760,
dealing with the deficiencies of Mendoza's three presidio captains, Rubín de Celís, on the Conchos, Santiago Ruiz at Janos,
and Bustamante y Tagle at Huejuquilla, and measures for their replacement. 22 p.
