Abstract:

Democrat of Greek parentage, and Dean of the California Legislature 1959-1996, Senator Nicholas Petris discusses his Oakland constituencies, culture and traditions of the Greek community, the rise of the California Democratic Party, California state politics and government, with particular attention to George Christopher, Ronald Reagan, Pat Brown, Bill Knowland, Rose Bird, and Ron Dellums, State Senate leadership, women in politics, legal aid, and the University of California.
