Many photographs taken in the American Southwest. Includes scenes of cattle ranching, cowboys, Native Americans, shepherds,
and mining and prospecting. Many images were used in publications by Dane Coolidge. Native American groups pictured are: Apache,
Hopi, Mojave, Navajo, Paiute, Seri, Sioux, Ute, Yaqui, Yuman, Zuni, unspecified pueblo Indians, and several plains tribes.
Ranching views include photographs on the lands of the Chiricahua Cattle Company in Arizona, as well as various rodeos. Many
desert landscapes are present, including many in Death Valley and others at Panamint, Searles Borax Flat, Surprise Canyon,
White Sands, and the Colorado Desert. Nearly 90 images, many collected by Coolidge from unknown sources, relate to the border
war, the US Army's Punitive Expedition, and the "foreign legions" of Villa, Obregon, and Madero during the Mexican Revolution.
Also present are some views of China in 1920.
