Abstract:

Discharge certificate for Corporal Frank A. Hofmann in Peter Snooks' Company Q, 56th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, who was enrolled on December 25th, 1862 to serve two years during the war. The certificate states that Hofmann is hereby discharged from the service of the United States on October 16th, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia by reason of expiration of his term of service. It also states that he was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; he is twelve years of age; and he was a sugar inspector when he enrolled. The certificate is signed by Captain Peter Pedro, Commanding the Regiment, with a blank Oath of Identity on the back.
