Farm records and other accounts of Charles Hansen date from 1881-1908 and include detailed expense and income records, purchases,
monthly and yearly financial summaries, and records relating to Hansen's work with Dike District No. 3. Account books record
not only financial transactions but other events on the Mt. Vernon farm such as the amount of hay harvested and other crop
data, deaths, illnesses, birth of livestock, work Hansen did for others, a list of materials and prices for building a house,
etc. Also includes miscellaneous family papers that date to 1981, such as tax records, a divorce settlement, family history
notes by Cora S. Hansen Haggquist, and instructions on tanning hides and their prices. Oversize document relates to the legal
organization of Dike District No. 3 of Skagit Co. and names land owners affected. Other oversize material consists of issues
of newspapers such as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Skagit News, the Mt. Vernon News, and the Puget Sound Mail from
the 1880's-1912.
Local and Seattle history materials date from the 1960's-1981 and largely consist of a newspaper clipping subject file (with
notes, most from Skagit or other local papers) and a subject cardfile. A few of the clippings contain references to the Hansen
family. These materials were collected by Haggquist for a planned history of the area, and a significant portion relates to
local Indians.
