Note:
Agnews Asylum, operated by the State of California and later known as Agnews State Hospital , was established in 1885 and
opened four years later in an area northwest of San Jose. This facility was heavily damaged by the earthquake of April 18,
1906 and rebuilt in 1911. In 1998 Agnews closed, and part of its property sold to Sun Microsystems.
