William Walker was an American adventurer who engaged in filibustering by organizing private military expeditions into Latin
America to establish English-speaking colonies that he could control. He became President of the Republic of Nicaragua in
1856 and ruled until 1857 when he was defeated by a coalition of Central American armies, and in 1860, he was executed by
the Honduran goverment after invading Roatán in the Bay Islands of Honduras.
