Abstract:
Printed program, ca. 1873, "Slave Songs of the South, by the Hampton Colored Students," including note that Hampton [located
in Hampton, Virginia] is "Devoted to the preparation of Colored Teachers for the Colored Race and to Industrial Education"
and that nearly all of its students were born as slaves. Hampton's most famous graduate was Booker T. Washington.
