Title:
Liberia diaries, circa 1862
Creator/Contributor:
Online Archive of California
Abstract:
Two diaries, apparently different authors. First, diary of an unidentified minister, includes account of voyage from Baltimore
(June 1862), stop in England, continuing voyage past Teneriffe (Canary Islands), to Bathurst (Gambia), arriving in Liberia
(Dec. 1862). Second, diary of newly appointed Commissioner and Consul General of the U.S. - in Liberia. Mostly about trip
to Wisconsin beforehand, illness of wife, visiting government offices in D.C., presumably in preparation for trip to Liberia.
Both diaries talk of relatives/connection to Racine (WI)? - where are these, reported msg by TL ca. 2006-2007. No room in
box for these, which is curious.
