From dealer description: A collection of 414 photographs concerning political and historical events that took place in Hungary
in 1944 through 1946. There are four groups of photographs in the collection, the largest of which contains 161 photos and
portray the events leading to the establishment of the communist regime in Hungary. Another group (about 115 photos) shows
the Budapest ghetto and exhumation of bodies. 72 photos show the advance of the Red Army in Central and Eastern Europe. The
last group of 57 photos shows a burial of national importance.

Hungary joined the Axis Powers of World War II in 1941. In 1944, Hungary attempted to surrender to the Allies and was occupied
by Germany in response. Over 400,000 Hungarian Jews were deported to concentration camps, primarily Auschwitz. The Soviet
Army invaded in 1944 and following the end of the war occupied the country, establishing it as a satellite of the Soviet Union.
Thousands of Hungarians were imprisoned and executed by the Soviet government. An attempted uprising in 1956 was violently
put down. Hungary was finally restored as a republic in 1989.
