Abstract:
138 photographic postcards, most black and white but a few chromolithographic of Dar-es-Salaam and other parts of German occupied
Tanganyika (now Tanzania), prior to and during the East African campaign of World War I. The majority are German postcards,
unused, with a small number of English cards. Includes twelve images of Dar es Salaam, including the Armistice Day celebration;
a chromolithographical card of a DOAL ship by Willy Stöwer; colored artist's impression by C. W. Kiesslich of the Germans
repulsing the landing at Tanga; color Kolonialkriegerdank card of an Askari with German flag; three composite-view cards of
the Military Station at Ujiji; and a postcard reproduction of the Lettow-Vorbeck Kolonial-Krieger-Spende poster by Grotemeyer.
