Los Angeles (1953); earned J.D. from University of Southern California, School of Law (1956); worked as a fashion model, appeared
in Ebony, Tan, and Our World; practiced real estate law (1960s); served as a hearing officer on Los Angeles Police Commission
(1965); hired as a staff attorney for McCone Commission; elected to California State Assembly to represent the 63rd Assembly
District (1967); vice chair of the Democratic National Convention (1972), the first African American woman member of congress
from California (1972-1978); returned to private legal practice (1979); named chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
