Subjects include geographical aspects, physical and cultural, of various regions in South America, including Chile (Antofagasta,
Chiu Chiu, Calama, San Pedro de Atacama, Lasana, Río Loa, Mamiña, Pica, Pueblo Hundido, Ancud, Castro, Puerto Montt and Temuco),
Bolivia (La Paz, Tiahuanaco), Peru (Sacsayhuamán, Cuzco, Písac, Urubamba, Arequipa, Pisco, Pachacama, Lima, Matucana, Museo
Nacional de Arqueología, Mangomarca, Hacienda Chichen, Chan Chan, and Piura), Ecuador (Cuenca, Guayaquil, Tambo and Quito)
and Colombia (Popayán, Zarzal and Guasca). Also includes a few photographs taken in Mexico. Most of these photographs from
Latin America were taken in the 1930s. Also includes portraits and snapshots of Sauer taken throughout his life, and various
family members and colleagues. Other materials include lists of image descriptions, a photocopy of a letter from Rosetta Sauer
to R.D. Salisbury, a decorative (perhaps military?) pin, and a coin from Hong Kong. Many, though not all, negatives from NNEG
boxes 1-2 are represented by matching prints. Negatives from NNEG boxes 3-5 have no identified corresponding prints and in
many cases no identification of subject matter (although locations in South America and/or Central America are likely to be
the primary general topic).
