Note:
Stevenson's Regiment (under the command of Col. J.D. Stevenson) was the first New York volunteer regiment to go into the Mexican
War. The regiment was sent to California by sea in 1846-47. Its mission was to occupy California and after being mustered
out, to remain in California and settle it for the U.S.
