Established by Luigi Magnaghi (1878-1945) in 1927, the Swiss-Italian Sausage Factory was one of a dozen Italian sausage factories
in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1945, after the death of Luigi, the business was passed on to his son, Mario Magnaghi, who
soon created a partnership with Alfred Paulazzo, an immigrant from Venice. In 1968, when meat inspection regulations were
becoming more stringent, it was decided that the company would be sold to the San Francisco Sausage Company of South San Francisco.
Mario Magnaghi operated the Alpine Deli at the old location (4401 Third St.), until his retirement in the late 1970s.
