Abstract:
Two handwritten letters from a man to his brother-in-law informing him of his plans to take his family to California for the
gold rush opportunities there. He gives descriptions of the caravan of wagon trains and the large numbers of emigrants heading
West. Both letters are folded and addressed on an exposed portion of the paper.

Samuel B. Bright and his wife Charlotte were missionaries working with members of the Osage Nation in western Missouri. They
eventually moved to Sonoma, California where Samuel Bright is listed in 1854 as part of the city's governing council and in
1856 as its mayor.
