Abstract:
Chiefly slides documenting projects associated with Seim's career as a bridge engineer for the state of California, for T.Y.
Lin International, and as a private consulting engineer. Many files are present for various projects related to bridges of
the San Francisco Bay Area, espcially the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, but also the Golden Gate Bridge, Dumbarton Bridge,
Carquinez Bridge, Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, San-Mateo Hayward Bridge, and the Benicia-Martinez Bridge. Also includes files
for other projects pertaining to bridges elsewhere in California, across the nation, and in other countries, including China,
Japan, Brazil, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Poland. Other files pertain to various bridge materials and engineering topics. Collection
also includes many postcards depicting bridges, especially those associated with Seim's work in China and Japan. Also includes
a few papers, business cards, clippings pertaining to Seim's career and other interests, and a small section of Golden Gate
Bridge suspender wire. Seim and his colleagues are depicted throughout the collection.

VHS tape on Akashi Kaikyo Bridge transferred to the Audio/Visual Collections of The Bancroft Library.
Seim began career in San Francisco Bay Area at beginning of construction of Interstate Highway system and long-span toll bridges
in California; worked as bridge engineer for California Public Works Department, Division of San Francisco Bay Toll Crossings
(1954-1980), as senior bridge engineer for T.Y. Lin International (1980-2044) and as a consulting bridge engineer (2004-present).
