Abstract:
Documents concerning the rivalries among Dominicans, Augustinians, and Franciscans in the Sierra Gorda region from the late
17th to the early 18th century. Included are requests by Dominican friars in the 1690s for royal license to establish a college
in Queretaro in order to sustain their missions in the Sierra Gorda. In addition, there are a number of documents which concern
the administration of the Franciscans in the region and show the favorable opinion of royal officers, such as Jose de Escandon,
regarding this new administration, as well as critics of the earlier work of Dominicans and Augustinians.
