Abstract:
Palomar assembled and maintained this collection, which contains letters, newspaper clippings, pamphlets and other records
on the rise of the rebellion, organization of La Liga Nacional Defensora de la Libertad Religiosa, course of the revolt, and
the aftermath of defeat. The Cristero Rebellion, rural based, had its intellectual inspiration and leadership from the city.
Palomar reflects the city view in contrast to the peasant leaders who did the fighting. The Palomar group carried on a bitter
debate with other lay Catholics and the hierarchy during the 1930's and 1940's concerning these events; this debate is included
in the collection : The 62 reels of microfilm also contain the correspondence of the leaders of the Cistero Rebellion against
the Mexican Government during the 1926-1929 period.
