Drakesbad was founded in 1900 by Roy's father, Alexander Sifford, a Susanville schoolteacher, who purchased 400 acres from
Edward Drake, who homesteaded there in the 1870s. The hot springs campground was operated by the Sifford family until 1959.
From 1956-58, they made it possible for the lands to be purchased by Lassen National Park, and in 1960, title passed into
the hands of the National Park Service.

Portions of the scrapbooks are published in Sixty years of Siffords at Drakesbad (1994); cataloged as F868.L3.S551.1994.
