Rosalie Joan Nichols was born in Sacramento, California on March 3, 1938. She attended Sacramento and San Francisco State
Universities and later moved to the Santa Clara Valley, residing in San Jose, California. In addition to running a commercial
printing company called Ms. Atlas Press, Nichols published a gay and lesbian family newspaper called "Our Paper, Your Paper"
and a literary journal, "Lesbian Voices." A committed lesbian feminist and a Libertarian, she was active in local political
campaigns, the Santa Clara Valley Human Rights Commission, the Santa Clara Valley Coalition for Human Rights, and the Society
for Education in Laissez-Faire.
