Records relating to promotions of Portolá, Costansó, and Fages, 1770-1771

Abstract:

Correspondence of Julián de Arriaga (Minister of the Indies), Viceroy de Croix, and Gaspar de Portolá, with supplementary documents, concerning promotions granted by the King to Portolá (from the rank of captain to that of lieutenant colonel), Miguel Costansó, and Pedro Fages, in view of past services, particularly exploration of the California coast and (in Portolá's case) direction of expulsion of the Jesuits from California.
