Original documents on New Mexico, and several family collections, especially the papers of Manuel Alvarez, 1830-1862, reflecting
his life as a fur trader, Santa Fe merchant, and U.S. consul, and papers of the Donaciano Vigil family, 1850-1898, long active
in the political affairs of Territorial New Mexico. With these are Read's own historical notes, correspondence, and clippings,
which portray his activities and interests as lawyer and historian. Original Mss. in library of Historical Society of New
