Letters, some in Spanish, and legal documents, such as deeds, survey notes, blueprints, and tax receipts, record the land
holdings and later subdivisions of the Peralta-Galindo families. For each document written in Spanish, a brief definition
and summary written in English is included. Most of what is in Spanish are transactions concerning property and 2 letters
are written to Matias Romero, Minister Plenipotentiary in Washington. Rancho del Diablo in Contra Costa County was owned by
Francisco Galindo. Rancho San Antonio in Alameda County belonged to the Peralta family and today comprises the cities of Alameda,
Oakland, and Berkeley. A second subgroup in the collection is the personal papers of Ruperto Peralta-Galindo (1902-1934).
These include his personal and business correspondence, ranch histories and genealogies, leaves from a family album of cyanotypes,
poems and short stories, and programs from companies he managed and/or acted in, approximately 1900-1910.
