A prominent San Francisco physician, Roberta Fenlon was born in Clinton, Iowa and educated at the University of Iowa. She
served on the faculty of the University of California Medical School (later UCSF) and took an active interest in local and
state medical organizations. In 1970 she became the first woman elected to the presidency of the California Medical Association.
Throughout her career she was involved with issues surrounding government provision of health care services.
