The collection consists of two items: a booklet entitled A Contribution to Jewish Education: The Story of Six Years of Achievement
of the Herzl Lecture Course, 1933-1938 (Seattle, Wash.: Herzl Lecture Course, 1938), and a program from The Beth Abraham from
the memorial service for Rabbi Philip Langh (January 23, 1947). The booklet contains a detailed history and description of
the Herzl Lecture Course, from 1933 to 1938. It also has a selection of two papers delivered by Philip A. Langh: Adult Education
and the Synagogue (1934); and An Unknown Chapter in the History of Adult Education (1935).

Philip Austin Langh was born in Hungary on January 30, 1893. He and his family immigrated to the United States when he was
still an infant. He graduated from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, and then became the Midwest Executive Director
of the United Synagogue of America. After that, he became a rabbi at the Herzl Conservative Congregation in Seattle, Washington.
While there, he became the creator and director of the Herzl Lecture Course; he published a booklet about the Course after
he had been its director for six years. He died on December 21, 1946, in Oakland, California, just short of his 52nd birthday.
