John Brannan (1813-1862) was the older brother of prominent California pioneer Sam Brannan. John sailed from Philadelphia
to San Francisco in 1849 and, after returning to the East, came back to San Francisco in 1852 to work in his brother's office.
John died in 1862 en route to China.
