Original drawings by Sergio Sánchez Santamaría produced for his exhibition La república 150 años después, held in Mexico City
from July, 2017 to June, 2018. The exhibition commemorated the 150th anniversary of the 1867 constitutional referendum of
Mexico. Drawings depict persons, events and symbols associated with Mexico's overthrow of French intervention and the beginning
of constitutional reforms promoted by President Benito Juárez. Multiple drawings depict or refer to Juárez; others depicted
include Porfirio Díaz, Melchor Ocampo and Maximilian I, Emperor of Mexico; two images depict Maximillian, Miguel Miramón and
Tomás Mejía immediately prior to their execution. Also depicted in various treatments are common symbols of Mexican nationhood
-- e.g. eagle, snake, cactus, maguey plant, and the Mexican flag.
