The Oakland Oral History Project aimed to collect the valuable oral histories of senior Oakland residents of different ethnic
backgrounds for the present Oakland community. The project focused on race relations in Oakland with special emphasis on the
areas of housing, labor, education, and cultural institutions; inquiring into the forces that shaped Oakland's current racial,
ethnic and cultural mosaic. 16 transcripts are included in the collection.

Collaborative project between the University-Oakland Metropolitan Forum, the African American Studies Department at UC Berkeley,
and the African American Museum and Library in Oakland. Interviews conducted 1997-1999 by graduate students from various disciplines
at UC Berkeley.
