Abstract:
Chiefly snapshots of refugees leaving San Francisco, nurses with the Examiner Relief Corps, and relief camps and hospitals,
including the W.R. Hearst Tent City in Oakland. Also present are four commercial photographs of ruins: the interior of the
Emporium store, the Spreckels mansion, a street scene from the Ferry [Building?], and the Poodle Dog restaurant.

Nellie May Brown, a nurse from Los Angeles, Calif., served as a member of the Los Angeles Examiner Relief Corps. The Relief
Corps arrived in Oakland on April 19, 1906, to assist in the aftermath of the earthquake and fire.
