Abstract:
Photographs reproduce original paintings and drawings of ca. 1849-1870. Views depict mining during the California Gold Rush,
and related activites such as scenes along the route via Panama. Mining views show miners working and relaxing, the mining
town of Rough and Ready, and a pack mule train caught in a snow storm crossing the Sierra Nevada. Other views show the dining
room at the Nahl family residence, a bedroom at the French Hotel in Panama, Isla Santa Margarita (Baja California, Mexico),
the 1852 flood in Sacramento, and a California ranch.
